Are you tired of your couch?

I often hear from my clients one of their biggest frustrations is not liking their old couch. The issue is that they are holding out for the right look, waiting for their kids to be older, or it is outside the budget. Whatever the reason, if you find yourself tired of the style or color of your couch, there are ways to refresh it!

3 Tips to quickly change the look of a couch:

1. Change up the pillows.

The easiest and quickest way to change the look of your old couch is to remove the pillows that came with the sofa. Choose pillows with varying patterns and textures, and add colors you love. Suppose you have an old brown couch; add pillows with light colors that you enjoy. Conversely, if your furniture is light in color, add various vibrant shades. Add a complementary throw to your new pillows, and you have a quick transformation!

2. Add pieces in a metallic finish.

Add accessories and artwork that highlight a metallic that you love, preferably something with a bit of sparkle to attract the eye and diminish the look of your old couch. Choose touches of gold, silver, or rose metallic in your decorating elements, depending on the base color of your couch.

3. Remove the skirt and update the legs.

If your couch has a skirt, you may be able to remove it and expose the legs for an updated look. You can also update the furniture legs once they are exposed to offer a fresh style. Keep in mind the legs can be painted any color you would like to complete the desired style. Click here for an example of an old couch where they removed the skirt and used nail head trim for a finishing touch.

Also, look at the side tables next to your sofa; are they too dark or overbearing for the room? A budget-friendly choice is to paint or refinish them if it is a color issue. If the base and back pillows of the couch are sagging, add new foam and filler to get extra life out of the sofa.

By changing the look of the things on and around your couch, your eye will go to the things you love and focus less on the aspects you do not like. If you need help working with your space and making your room work for your lifestyle in a beautifully decorated way, call me at 610-955-8202.
