3 Ways to Display your Kid’s Artwork

With the start of September and school, it is time to create a decorative way to display your kid’s artwork. As a parent of four kids, we always encouraged art projects, painting, and clay in our home. We always tried to instill self-expression through some form of art or crafts. When they were little, we had a large bulletin board in our laundry room, and each child got to decide which one or two pictures they loved the most, and they hung them proudly. Through the years, I collected folders per year of their best artwork. Even though my children are all adults, we still enjoy the extraordinary paintings, papier-mache, and pottery pieces we have saved through the years. Some are beautiful, and some are hysterically bad!

One of my children, Rachel, went on to art school, and I am very blessed to have several large pieces of hers hanging in my home. The featured photo on this post displays one of my favorites!

You first need to designate an area of your home where the artwork will be displayed. Regardless if you have multiple kids, you will need to limit the number of pieces shown at any given time. You can involve your kids and ask them which items they want to showcase.

3 Artwork display ideas:

1. Purchase picture frames of the same color or spray paint frames you already own in the same color. Select frames where it is easy to remove and replace the artwork and create a collage based on the picture frame size. Layout and arrange the frames on the floor before hanging them to ensure they look balanced.

2. Hang a wire with clips for each child to change out and add artwork easily. Ikea sells a curtain wire cable that uses these clips to display the pieces.

3. Add a rustic look by using wood with hooks or clamps. I found a cute blogger who created this look using stained wood, Craving Some Creativity.

If you have small art pieces, choose ones to incorporate into your decorating as a centerpiece on a buffet or side table, or designate a cabinet with glass that showcases the artwork. The key is to select a few items in a collection so that the pieces can be seen. You can save artwork in storage containers for each kid and switch out pieces for variety. The kids will love it!
