As promised, in my Create a Healthy & Restful Home series, the focus this week are your walls. As a professional color consultant, interior decorator, and home stager, I find clients often feel the need to put stuff on every wall displaying entire collections, regardless of the space or room style. My goal is to answer how you can add a sense of rest, wellness, and beauty to your walls.
Visually when you have too much coming at you, the eye doesn’t know where to land, which can be stressful for some people. You may not be aware of it; however, the response may be happening to you. Less is more! You may love all the items in your room, or perhaps only one or two pieces.
3 Steps to create restful and beautiful walls:
- Remove all the pieces from the walls.
- Layout all the items together on the floor, compare them to each other and choose your favorite pieces. At this point, you can choose to use artwork or decorative elements in a different room, store them, gift them, or donate.
- Create your “model” room! Every month or seasonally, you can change out pieces (from your stored collection) to create a new look, using all your cherished pieces in varying combinations. You will notice and enjoy them more every day!
Once you have your vision and a plan for your wall style, it is the perfect time to pick a paint color if you wish to add a fresh look to the room. Learn How to Pick a Paint Color from my paint tip series. You will want to choose one that works with all the decorating elements in the room. If you need help pulling a look together, call me at 610-955-8202 for a consultation to give you a restful and beautiful home!
Next week, I will focus on adding a calm and restful feeling to your home with the proper lighting!
