Rustic, Reclaimed, and Repurposed Decorating

I love the style of decorating with rustic, reclaimed, and repurposed items. The whole premise of REdesign is to reinvent, resurrect, and reuse. It requires creativity and is what I love to do! One of my favorite memories is scrounging around antique shops in New England with my mom as a child and watching her repurpose and decorate with the most incredible finds. It is one of my fondest childhood memories; little did I know it would shape me into becoming the Interior Redesign and Home Staging professional I am today! If you wish to add rustic elements to a room’s decorating style and want some design ideas, check out my Pinterest Board.

You can add some old features quickly by doing one of the following:

  1. Add materials that have been aged or weathered over time or by nature.
  2. Combine these items with new or modern items; for instance, a weathered piece of wood can become a side-table top by adding fresh “legs” to the form.
  3. I love the mix of soft pillows, throws, flowers, and colors with industrial or rustic items. It makes for a very creative arrangement. Incorporate old pieces in unexpected ways; a rusted piece of metal may become a bookend or part of a coffee table vignette with a vase of flowers.

Shop Antiques or Salvaged
