Businesses with employees working from home find that employees like the flexibility, and many offer a hybrid in-office / at-home work option. I have heard from clients expressing a need for solutions when dealing with noise issues, office functionality, and ways to decorate their office space. To help, continue reading for tips.
How to Deal with Noise
If multiple people are in the home, it can be challenging to be in a quiet workspace. Repurposing a room to serve two goals, such as an office and guest room, works out nicely if you have that option available. Ideas to buffer noise:
- Add a stylish daybed that can convert to a sleeper for your guests or serve as a seating area while you are working.
- Use a tapestry or canvas to add an art element and absorb sound. Create oversized canvases of some of your favorite photos. FedEx Printing Services allows you to upload a photo (that you own) digitally and select your canvas size. Or consider creating a collage of square canvas photos. If you choose to do the collage, pick a theme, such as black and white family photos or colorful nature photos.
- Hang a lovely throw rug. If you have a beautiful throw rug, perhaps too small for any of your rooms, consider using a hanger and hanging it on the wall to buffer the sound.
- Decorate a wall with sound reduction panels. FeltRight offers colorful and customizable felt wall tiles. Their website provides design ideas to create a masterpiece of your own by making your workspace quiet and lovely!
Decorative Storage Ideas
If you do not have the space or cannot repurpose a room (or closet) into a work area, you are limited to one of your living areas. Choose decorative storage ideas that can stay in the room and help you with easy clean-up when guests come over. Choose a hanging file folder to organize your work; there are many options, including wicker, wicker with wheels, colorful, or modern metal mesh.
Do you have an old file cabinet? Consider giving it a fresh look. I created a Pinterest Board of ideas to provide inspiration and DIY tips. Download my 5-Point Home Office Checklist to get started with setting up a new home office.
