4 Tips to make Artwork Appear Larger

by Debbie Correale

Over the years of running a professional interior design, decorating, and staging business, I have often been asked how to choose and hang art pieces. Often the question is how to deal with artwork that is too small for a specific area. Read my last decorating article, How to Hang Artwork, for tips if you missed it.

4 Tips for dealing with artwork that is too small:

1. Use dramatic and oversized hardware to hang the piece. If you prefer an industrial look, use pipe fittings as the hanger using curtain clips, rope, or chain, and spray your desired color; click here to learn how.

2. Choose a larger mat and frame to fit the desired spot. If you are the DIY type, check out these instructions on making a large-scale picture frame.

3. Combine with other art elements, or use beautiful baskets to create the look you want.

4. Place a larger frame outside the item to create the image of a larger piece. Learn how to make a frame using trim molding or create a farmhouse-style one in this tutorial.
