Are you planning to renovate an old deck or create a new one this summer? If so, you may want to consider an eco-friendly approach. To be labeled an environmentally friendly decking, look for decking to be described as being environmentally friendly it must be produced in such a way that it does not have a negative impact on the environment. This means that the wood must come from a sustainable source that the production process uses the minimum of energy and that materials are recycled where appropriate. (Greenliving.LovetoKnow.com.) Whichever option you choose, find out if your deck builder is LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified by the U.S. Green Building Council.
6 Eco-Friendly Deck Decorating Tips:
- Composites such as Trex offer a decking product made of 95% recycled materials that look elegant. They also provide a planning tool and visualizer, which helps in the creative process.
- While researching this blog, I found a fun idea, add an outdoor mural! I know it sounds crazy, but Murals Your Way lets you pick the desired scene, and they offer a VersaGrip backing that sticks to rough surfaces.
- Use solar-powered lighting options. You can get string lights, lanterns, garden lights, and decorative tree lights that are all solar-powered!
- Add an outdoor rug made entirely of recycled plastic that is mold and mildew resistant, and durable.
- Choose deck furniture that is mindful of sustainability; learn more.
