Many people confuse the two terms and use them interchangeably. There is a significant difference between the two. A redesign is decorating to dwell, and staging is decorating to sell.
What is Redesign?
A redesign of a home or office interior is a change in the appearance, function, and potentially content. When you contact me to help you choose decorating elements or a color consultation to help create a lovely and functional room is all part of a redesign. A redesign involves working with your items and perhaps suggesting items to purchase to complete a finished look. A redesign may include assisting you in choosing flooring, tile, accessories, or furniture.
What is Home Staging?
Home staging involves getting your home ready for sale. It is different from a redesign in that the goal is to amplify your home’s strengths for a potential buyer. I help you create a punch list of what to remove, ways to maximize room flow, possible items that need to be changed or added. The goal is to present the house’s assets to make the potential buyer walk away with a feeling of, “Yes, I see myself in this house, and I love it!“
This video shows you the steps to staging a built-in bookcase using a few items that are pleasant to the eye, not distracting, and displays the potential of the bookcase beautifully.
