I love summer and all the fun, warmth, and entertaining this time of year. With this in mind, I wanted to focus on creating a comfortable and inviting outdoor area for your outdoor enjoyment.
5 easy steps to build your backyard oasis:
- Bring comfort and décor from the inside to the outside! To encourage conversation and relaxation, create a family room vibe outdoors.
- If you have neutral-colored patio furniture, add pops of summer color by adding pillows and cushions with lovely summer colors of greens, yellows and fuchsia. Check out the various options from Target or Pottery Barn.
- Store unused items in a deck container or build a bench. Build a deck box in this step-by-step video from Lowes that can double as a seating area by adding a cushion to the top. Or purchase online, check out Overstock for inexpensive deck storage options.
- Add lights to create a warm and inviting space. Several lighting ideas are out there to fit every need and personal taste and decorating style. Add these lighting ideas to your outdoor space: Overhead lighting for a soft glow, string lights, outdoor table or floor lamp, and umbrella lights.
- Create an instant garden with planters in various shapes and colors. Keep in mind not all pots have to have flowers in them; you could plant a tall bush in a large pot and have an instant lush green look. My theory, if you are not a gardener and don’t want to become a gardener, give it a try on three pots of various heights, create a grouping and see how it looks for the summer … who knows, maybe it will turn into a whole new life experience!
