On the east coast, July and August are the months where we have plenty of bugs, bees, and mosquitoes. While we are trying to enjoy the outdoors peacefully, they can send us running! Tips in this post will help you deal with the pests and increase your outdoor living space and enjoyment.
Keep bugs away.
While dining outside, keep all food covered with food tents! For a list of natural repellents, click here. Keep the air moving over the food area by using a small fan, as the breeze will deter flies. If you have a large area that you would like to keep free of mosquitoes, try a propane-powered mosquito trap, for a review of these devices, click here.
Create an outdoor area on your deck, patio, or porch.
If you have a deck, consider closing off a portion of it and creating a screened-in space for dining. Check out these tips from Bob Vila, or click here to learn about screened porch kits.
Add a new living area.
A quick way to increase your outdoor living space is to add a canopy or gazebo, or an enclosure kit. Another idea is to add extra space that you would use all year round with a 4-season enclosure, click here for options.
