I have often been asked how to choose and hang art pieces over the years of running a professional interior design, decorating, and staging business. Usually, the question is how to deal with artwork that needs to be bigger for a specific area. Read my last decorating article, How to Hang Artwork, for tips if you missed it.
4 Tips for dealing with artwork that is too small:
1. Use dramatic and oversized hardware to hang the piece. If you prefer an industrial look, use pipe fittings as the hanger using curtain clips, rope, or chain, and spray your desired color; click here to learn how.
2. Choose a larger mat and frame to fit the desired spot. If you are the DIY type, check out these instructions on making a large-scale picture frame.
3. Combine with other art elements, or use beautiful baskets to create your desired look.
4. Place a larger frame outside the item to create the image of a larger piece. In this tutorial, learn how to make a frame using trim molding or create a farmhouse-style one.
