To start the month of April off right, here’s a quick check list of things to do to get your home ready for the fun summer months that are quickly approaching!
1. Spruce up your front door entrance. Change your outdoor lighting and/or clean the lighting fixtures. Also switch to eco-friendly CFL bulbs. Be sure to update or clean the look of your front door. Remove the spider webbing and debris, polish any brass, and re-paint trim and door. If you have a screen door, does the screening need replaced? I know it sounds crazy to put so much emphasis on your front door and lighting however, your guests stand here a long time observing before you answer the door!
2. Spruce up the planting beds. It may be too early to plant anything, we always seem to have a frost before May, but you can clean out all of the leaves and get the beds ready for your planting and mulch. If you break this task down into this prep-step and then plant and mulch as the second step it makes it seem like less work.
3. Outdoor Furniture and Walkways. Clean off your porch or deck and pull out your outdoor furniture. Clean your furniture and deck containers. Now is a good time to evaluate the condition of your furniture and decide if you need to dispose, sell, or repurpose. Pull out the power washer and clean your walkways of any mold and dirt that accumulated through the winter months.
4. Clean the Gutters. Now is a good time to clean out your gutters and remove the leaf and dirt buildup to ensure that your gutters are working properly. Contact a company to do this for you if you have no interest in getting on a ladder.
Happy Spring!
