Buying a home? How to Select an Agent

by Debbie Correale

This is the second blog in my series of “Buying a home in 2013.”  I hope you find some useful information.  If you are moving into a new area that you are unfamiliar, you may not know an agent to use.  Here are some great tips on how to find an agent:

  1. Go to open houses.  Even if you are not interested in the home that the agent is representing it will give you a chance to talk with them and find out their story.
  2. Go with an experienced agent, someone who has closed many properties and has worked as a real estate agent for at least two years.  Find out if they are a full-time agent, you will want a knowledgeable and available real estate agent to answer all of your questions.
  3. Reach out to friends and see if you can get a personal recommendation.
  4. Make sure your agent is tech-savvy and online.  Most homebuyers find their home online first.

“A great way to find an agent is from a referral from a past client, family member or friend.  Make sure that the agent is full time, experienced in that market and backed by a strong broker in the industry.  Realtor should have designations such as ABR (Accredited Buyer Representative), CDPE (Certified Distressed Property Expert) and CSR (Certified Seller Representative).” lizfacenda
