Are you buying a home in 2013?

by Debbie Correale

Are you buying a home in 2013?As you know Redesign and Home Staging are my forte, but I have been thinking about those of you who are purchasing a home in 2013.  In the month of February, I will offer blog posts in a “Buying a Home in 2013” series to help you in this process and offer informational tips.

In this first blog post, I want to focus on general Home Buying tips.  I found some great articles detailing tips for 2013.  I have summarized some of them to get you started:

  1. Get your credit checked.  Go to AnnualCreditReport.com to view a free copy.
  2. Research the house that is best for you in terms of size and location.  The average time that someone stays in a house is seven years.  Use sites such as Zillow.com to view houses by address and Google Maps to research the surrounding area by satellite view.
  3. Buy a house you can truly afford.  Use a Mortgage Calculator to better understand the numbers.
  4. Get pre-approved for a mortgage.  This process will offer you a good gauge on what you can afford and what the bank will be willing to loan you.

According to all the news reports it is a good time to sell and buy this year.

According to Lee Ann Embrey of Coldwell Banker Preferred, Exton, PA…

“If you are thinking about buying a home, do not wait any longer.  Inventory is down and interest rates are still historically low.  Home prices are expected to rise steadily throughout this year and beyond.”  Lee Ann Embrey, ASR,ABR
