Planning a vacation is always exciting, but for those with container plants, garden beds, or indoor plants, it can also bring a bit of anxiety. How do you water plants to ensure your plants stay hydrated and healthy while you’re away? In this article, I will explore practical tips and methods to help you keep your plants watered during your absence so you can enjoy your time away without worrying about returning to wilted leaves or dying plants.

Solutions to Water Plants – Indoors:

Tips: As there is an opportunity for water to drip, be sure the water and plants are on an appropriate surface. Test it out before your vacation. Also, if you are setting up a DIY watering arrangement, set the system on a surface that would not have a problem with some water drips.

Solutions to Water Plants – Outdoors:

Tip: For container gardening, understand the types of potting soil.

If you do not want to deal with this, hire a reliable neighborhood teen. The question is always, how much do I pay them? One suggestion is to pay based on how much time they spend at your house. For example, if it is a brief visit, $10/visit. If watering takes an hour, plan on $20/visit. Also, specify clearly how long a good watering is; for example, tell them to count to 20-30 for each pot. Larger pots will require more water. If watering indoors, supply a container for the exact amount each visit or indicate what that amount should be.

Have a fantastic time away, relax, and enjoy!
