Have you been dreaming of a new kitchen or would you like to change some things in your kitchen? In my next two articles, I will be focusing on that very topic. This article will concentrate on the trends that you will see in 2016, and my next article will focus on remodeling and renovation resources. Here are some of the trends you may wish to incorporate into your kitchen redesign:
- An integrated kitchen to living space continues to be a goal for everyone. This area is a multi-purpose space where people cook, eat, entertain, do homework-crafts-school projects, and work on a computer.
- Multiple Work Zones are critical going into 2016. Two sinks offer greater flexibility and allow more individuals to be in the kitchen at one time working independently in two separate areas. Smart spaces that include storage for everything, charging stations for phones, computers and tablets and an organized drop-zone where everyone knows where their keys, mail, etc. reside in an organized orderly manner.
- White continues to be the dominate color in kitchen cabinets, and you will find soft, muted color palettes in tones of charcoal to shades of white. The back splash will be similarly colored to coordinate with this color scheme. You will see more Nordic Designs that include color palettes of white or light wood with clean lines and functionality. There will be less strong contrasting designs, more texture-on-texture.
- You will see more geometric and graphic tile designs. In my article titled, “2016 Kitchen and Bath Industry Winners,†Walker Zanger is offering gorgeous ceramic tile designs for the kitchen.
- Well-lit cabinetry is the name of the game! Long gone are the days of dark cabinets, pantries, and counter tops. Adding recessed can lights along with the cabinet lighting offers maximum task lighting and installing the ability to dim the counter top lights can provide a warm glow and ambiance when you are not working in your kitchen.
If you are in the “thinking†phase of the kitchen redesign, you will want to look at many different kitchen design options and decide what you like and want in your kitchen. I always tell people to come up with a list of things you need and would like to have in your kitchen. If you prioritize this list, it will help you when you determine your budget, which I will discuss in more detail in my next article.
