Here we are closing the last chapter in 2014, I hope your holidays were successful and beautifully decorated! As we are in the week of a new year, I decided to focus a post on ideas for having a New Year’s Eve party and decorating for the celebration of the New Year.
Here are 5 great ideas for your New Year’s celebration:
- Play Games: Not in the mood for a big party? Invite a few friends or couples over and host a game night. One of our favorites is Guesstures as you can create teams, and it’s a lot of fun! For some other game ideas, click here.
- Decorate your mantel: Create a 2015 mantel piece by using four plain white pillar candles, using vinyl numbers (that can be purchased at any craft store) stick 2015 to each candle respectively. Use spray adhesive, also sold in craft stores and completely spray the candle. Using a spoon, pour super fine glitter (any color, depending on your theme colors) all over the candle. After the adhesive dries, gently remove the vinyl numbers, and you should see candles that make up 2015 that will look beautiful on your mantel. (Click here for a visual on how these glitter candles could look.)
- Create a centerpiece for your appetizer table: Use or purchase a narrow basket or tin, keep in mind that you can always pick up a can of Rustoleum’s Metallic Spray Paint at any home store and change the color to match the center piece’s theme. Put floral foam inside the container of your choice, purchase cardboard or paper mache 2015 numbers or create your own out of glitter card stock. Attach skewers to them (with glue or tape) and stick the numbers in the floral foam to secure them in place. Add silver and gold or black and white ornaments (of various sizes) to the container, and you have a fun New Year’s center piece.
- Decorating for the party: I love the idea of hanging things from the ceiling as it draws the eye up and creates a magical feel to any party. While researching for this post, I came across a fun idea – lit balloons. Go to your local Party City and purchase LED lights and balloons. Place a LED light in some of the balloons before you blow them up and use Balloon Tape to hang the balloons from the ceiling. Or you could tie gold or silver ribbon to the balloons and hang them from the ceiling making the lengths various to add an interesting visual. I also love the idea of using clear balloons and adding sparkly confetti to them to add an added interest.
- Party tips: Plan to start the party late since people will be staying until past midnight that will mean there is no need for a complicated menu.  Simple appetizers and finger foods are the way to go. If you need some appetizer inspiration, click here for some new ideas. Have a New Year’s Eve toast prepared which will require that you have Champagne and flutes (glass or disposable) and have a sparkling juice or flavored water on hand for a non-alcoholic option.
Enjoy your party planning and decorating! Best wishes to you for 2015! Â
