This is the third blog in my February series on “Buying a Home in 2013.â€Â In this blog, I will focus on how to decide which house is right for you.
I would recommend coming up with a chart or a list of all the things that you want in a house – I would recommend that you and your partner do this exercise independent of one another and compare what you have listed and place an order of importance to you next to each item. This will be a great tool for you to use when talking with your real estate agent or researching homes online. Also, it will help to avoid any tension between you and your partner! For help on how to decide between two houses, click here for a great article. For information on how to find the perfect neighborhood, click here.
Too often people like to compare the square footage of one home to another, but they need to take into account details such as height of the ceiling or types of counter tops. If a home isn’t “perfect” think about what it would realistically take to make it feel perfect to you, keep in mind you need to select the right floor plan for your family’s needs. Aesthetic things such as paint or carpet can easily be changed. Be sure to choose the location and neighborhood that you can imagine yourself living in. If you are staring into your neighbor’s kitchen and you hate that – you will definitely hate it in a year’s time! Notice how you feel when you walk into a space, does it make you feel happy? Trust your gut and happy hunting!
