2016 Decorating and Home Electronic Trends

Decorating Trends2016 has some lovely trends in home decorating ideas and friendly electronic uses. As I described in my article titled, 2016 Pantone Colors of the Year, Pantone has selected Rose Quartz and Serenity (a pale blue with a tendency toward periwinkle) as their colors of the year, and you will see these colors in every room of the home in 2016. Other decorating trends for 2016 include:

  • Mixed metals
  • Fabric wall art
  • Wallpapers that include natural facades, retro looking geometrics with an Asian flair, metallic and matte tones, and combinations of calm and muted colors.
  • Pendant Lights
  • Black metals
  • Rounded Furniture
  • Decorations including brocades, tapestries, fringe, cording and tassels.

These are some of the electronic highlights showcased in the 2016 Consumer Electronics Show:

Family Hub Refrigerator by Samsung

You may want this in your kitchen renovation! Here is some information from Samsung about the Family Hub Refrigerator which sounds amazing:

The Family Hub is just that – a hub of household connections, but with a thoroughly digital twist. All communications are housed and displayed on a 21.5 inch full HD LCD resolution screen located on the upper right exterior door. As the refrigerator’s digital family command center, the screen allows you to post, share and update calendars, pin photos, share treasured kids’ works of art, and leave notes – all with the ease and convenience of your smartphone.” (Article source.)

Personal Lighting System by Hue

Want a different look in your living room whenever you feel like a change? By using an app with the Personal Lighting System from Philips Hue system, you can change the color of the light in a room. Changing the color of the light instantly offers you a different feel to your wall and furniture color! How cool is that?

If you are planning to purchase a new TV in 2016 or create a “movie” room, consider LG’s OLED 3D TV. It is very thin, and the screen is shaped to your natural field of vision as the product description states, “Witness dazzling images and immerse yourself in lifelike action from any angle.” I bet you didn’t think displays could get any better? This product, based on the description, is stunning.

Updating your Bedroom and Bath Décor in 2014

Thinking about updating your décor in 2014?  How is your bedroom or bath looking?  January is the month of the “white sale” where you can find great bargains on sheets and towels.  I thought it would be a great time to take advantage of the offered discounts and think about doing a redesign on your bedroom or bath.

Too often we get swept up in holiday planning and parties that we don’t have time to think about replacing used, outdated linens and towels.  Take a look at your bedroom; are you happy with the colors?  If you don’t have the time for a fresh coat of paint, take this opportunity to visit your local home store and see what they have to offer.  Often, only purchasing new curtains, sheets, or a new duvet cover instantly enhances and changes the feel of a room.  To get some inspiration on bedroom ideas, furniture, accessories, etc. check out these lovely photos from Arhaus.com.

If your towels have been washed to death and thin, it may be time to purchase some nice soft, absorbent towels.  You will enjoy them, and your guests will appreciate them!  There are many beautiful options for an updated bath look.  Check out these lovely ideas and products from WestElm.com.

In thinking about updating your décor this New Year, click here to read about the Shopping Trends in 2014.  There are some great deals to be had in January.  Besides linens it is a good time to buy watches, computers, fragrances, AND jewelry before they are marked up for the Valentine’s Day rush.  For more tips on trends, there was a great article in the Philadelphia Inquirer recently titled, “How to be trendy, but not too much” which gave some interesting advice on upcoming trends and how to stay looking up-to-date without breaking the budget.
