3-Step Guest Room Makeover

I know it’s hard to believe that Thanksgiving will be here soon, is your home ready for guests? I always think it is a good idea to walk into your guest room and look around with fresh eyes and ask yourself, “If I stayed here overnight would I be comfortable? Do I like the room, does it make me happy and peaceful?”

If your response is not what you would like it to be, let me help you. I can completely take all the stress out of this pre-holiday situation. In a consultation, I can meet with you, and we can decide:

  • what you want to change,
  • what you have to work with and what should be added, and
  • we can discuss paint color if needed.

After the consultation, you will have an itemized list of things to do and exactly what to shop for to complete the look you want. Interested in checking this stress off your list, click here to contact me.

For a 3-step guest room makeover without spending a fortune, consider the following ideas:

  1. Add a Duvet:  If you don’t like your current bedspread, consider covering it with a duvet! Click here to view some attractive options from Pottery Barn.
  1. Add a Table Lamp:  If your guest room only has an overhead light, add a beautiful night table and reading light. The lamp could tie in with the new duvet’s pop color, or add a touch of sparkle by picking a metal such as silver or gold. Click here to view ideas from Kirkland’s.
  1. Add a touch of comfort:  Add a cozy throw at the foot of the bed that complements your new duvet and lamp color! As a bonus, you may want to include a few decorative pillows (be sure to have space for these pillows to be stored in a basket or spot in the closet.) For a soft and cozy look add a bit of faux fur, click here to view some beautiful pillows and throws from Pier1.

Getting ready for the holidays? Time for a Spruce-Up!

Mann Basement Bedroom-resized-600It’s that time of year when we want to focus on getting our homes ready for the holidays, family, guests and entertaining. Here are some ideas to help you quickly spruce up a room without breaking the bank!

Get rid of clutter and make space for holiday decorations!

Now is a good time to take an overall assessment of your home and remove clutter and excess accessories. Pack up some of the items and make room to showcase beautiful holiday accessories that you cherish.

Is your couch or love seat showing it’s age?

If your couch, chair, or love seat is showing its age, and you are not in the market to replace it before the holidays, a quick way to spruce it up is to add batting or foam. This will instantly fill out the cushions and make them look snappy! Add new decorative throw pillows and you have yourself a beautiful fresh look for the holidays! Click here for an article to give you step-by-step instructions.

Add decorative items that are in style – now!

Have you noticed that Plaid is everywhere this season? Think beautiful Burberry or Pendleton and add touches of plaid in a throw or pillows. Pottery Barn offers an excellent selection, click here to view. Unusual metal items are definitely in style. Go into any Home Goods and you will be amazed at the options! Add a touch of lovely silver, gold, or brushed brass whatever works for you. The metal look could be a vase, a decorative accessory, details in a pillow, or candle holder. Faux fur is everywhere! If you love that look, now is the time to get shopping! Use your imagination and have some fun!

Freshen up your guest room!

I put together an Idea Board on Houzz with some beautiful photos displaying creative ways that you can make the guest bed and freshen up the look in the room. Click here to view the Idea Board.
