Create a Home Gym

by Debbie Correale

Are you looking for a long-term home workout area? This project can be easily achieved if you are fortunate enough to have an extra room or are willing to give up your garage. However, more commonly, we are sharing our workout space with others or have limited space. Depending on the type of activities and workouts that you do will depend on the kind of gym you want in your home. In this article, I offer many resources to get you going!

Resources:

  1. Create a home gym for less than $100.
  2. Weight lifters:  Create a gym for less than $500.
  3. Create the look of the gym with storage lockers that take up minimal wall space.
  4. Create a DIY Foldout Gym.
  5. Make a Gym in a Box.
  6. Don’t have a Peloton, no trouble, turn your bike into a stationary bike.
  7. Use the right lighting for your workout needs; click here for tips.
  8. Create a peaceful area for your yoga practice. If you don’t have a mat already, consider one of these based on your flooring, and preferred yoga style. Use your wall space effectively with one of these yoga mat holders.

Don’t forget the flooring!

Storage Tips for small weights, bands, blocks, etc.

  • DIY:  Create a box on wheels that can be stored when not in use. In this video, the DIYer uses metallic spray paint on the castors to create the look she wants for her storage box.
  • Use storage ottomans that work with your decorating style.
  • Convert a file cabinet into a storage unit and decorate it to suit your room style. Tip:  Paint a section with chalkboard paint (after properly priming it first) for your daily workout inspiration.

Add a mirror for light and for workout viewing.

Purchasing a large mirror can be an investment. Consider a DIY version using mirror tiles and a thin sheet of wood that the tiles can be adhered to with adhesive. This option is great for renters and those that do not want a permanent mirror on their wall. Properly hang the heavy mirror by following these instructions.

I hope these tips have inspired you to set up your home gym to help you stay healthy and happy. For all your home staging and interior decorating needs, please call 610-955-8202 or email, for a consultation.
