5 Outdoor Spring Projects

Springtime

I love seeing all the spring blossoms, tulips, and leaves emerging during my daily walks with Oliver. Enhance your outdoor curb appeal with the following spring projects:

1. Yard clean up.

Rack leaves, pick up branches, and do any necessary tree or shrub cleanup that you need on your property.

2. Add a fresh layer of mulch.

Connect with your neighborhood Facebook page, or look on NextDoor for recommendations on how to have mulch delivered. If you have a favorite garden center, check their website or call them directly for mulch delivery options.

Note, one cubic yard of mulch, or nine 3-cu-ft bags, will cover a 100 sq ft area to a depth of 3 inches, the preferred depth of standard mixed hardwood mulch. To learn more about the different mulch types, click here. If you are unsure how much mulch you will need, click here. According to the PennState Extension, to keep your trees healthy when adding mulch, “A good rule of thumb is to pull mulch 3 to 5 inches away from young trees and 8 to 10 inches away from mature trees. Spread excess mulch evenly out to the tree’s drip line, checking to ensure the depth does not exceed 4 inches.

3. Paint your front door.

First, find out if your homeowner association has any rules on color restrictions. If you are still trying to decide which color to choose and need color inspiration, click here.

4. Are you feeling creative?

Try stenciling! Turn an old concrete patio into a lovely tile pattern or an old wood outdoor table into a piece of art. Click here for outdoor projects from Cutting Edge Stencils.

5. Add a pop of color!

Use a shepherd’s hook to hang a joyful pot of pansies, which is a fantastic flower choice when we are still under the threat of a freeze.

Enjoy the spring weather! If you need help choosing your color palette or need a spring refresh, call me at 610-955-8202.
