5 Tips to make Artwork Appear Larger

Over the years of running a professional interior design, decorating, and staging business, I have encountered many of the same questions. A broad category of these questions has to do with choosing art pieces and how to hang artwork properly. If you missed it, read my last decorating article, How to Hang Artwork, for tips. A common question is how to deal with artwork that is too small for a specific area.

5 Tips for dealing with artwork that is too small:

1. Use dramatic and over-sized hardware to hang the piece. If you prefer an industrial look, here is a DIY tip! Use pipe fittings as the hanger using curtain clips, rope or chain, and spray paint for the desired color, click here to learn how.

2. Choose a larger mat and frame to fit the desired spot. If you are the DIY type, check out these instructions on making a large-scale picture frame.

3. Combine with other art, elements, or use beautiful baskets to create the look you want.

4. Place a larger frame outside the piece to create the image of a larger piece. For tips on making a simple frame, click here. Or create a farmhouse style frame, click here to view a tutorial.

5. Paint a portion of the wall a contrasting color.
