How to Increase Wellness in your Home

by Debbie Correale

I frequently say that all space should be beautiful. I am referring to a home that offers you peace, comfort, and beauty as we cannot control what is happening outside of our homes; we can influence what is happening inside them. In this article, I would like to discuss the wellness of your home and how you can increase it.

Eliminate Stuff.

If you are living around a lot of stuff, things that you don’t use such as a bread maker you’ve used once or a hand-blender that’s still in the box, it’s time to give it away and free yourself of these things. The saying you shift your stuff you change your life is real. Surround yourself with things that bring you joy, not because it was a gift that you feel obligated to hang onto. I love the idea of taking pictures of things, so you always hold the memory, and release the item.

Be aware of what you bring into your home.

Do your homework and check what chemicals and processes are involved in the home products you bring into your home.

  • Choose low VOC paint.
  • Remove mold and radon and check your carbon monoxide levels with a detector.
  • If you are adding new cabinets or building, what is the wood made of, check if there are toxic glues or formaldehyde used.
  • Understand the materials used in the furniture you purchase, the foam used in the cushions that they are free of toxins.

7 Tips to help you clean the air in your home:

  1. Open your windows to improve indoor air quality (if you have allergies do not leave open during the early morning and evening hours.)
  2. Add houseplants to add oxygen, remove impurities, and carbon dioxide. Click here for 15 houseplants that will improve your home’s air quality.
  3. Remove scented air fresheners that can add to bad air quality and opt for essential oil diffusers that have proven to reduce dust mites in homes (use eucalyptus, clove and rosemary oil).
  4. Remove your shoes when you enter your home to eliminate tracking dirt inside.
  5. If you have an AC, use it as it recycles your air, and change the filter frequently.
  6. Use green cleaning products that do not add toxins to the air; click here for tips on making your own.
  7. Use or install an air purifier, for tips from the EPA, click here.

I hope these tips help to increase the air quality and bring you peace the moment you enter your home. If you need help pulling a room together, using the items that you love, give me a call 610-955-8202 or email for a consultation.
