Update Deck or Patio

I don’t know about you; I am ready for Spring, warm weather, and outdoor entertaining! As we look forward to outdoor entertaining, it may be an excellent time to develop an outdoor décor. Are there any outdoor projects you want to accomplish? Now is the time to create your plan! Take stock of what you have and what you want to change.

How is your deck looking?

If you have a wood deck, it’s time to either have it professionally cleaned or do it yourself. If you decide to do-it-yourself, be sure that the deck cleaner that you use takes care of your problem, for example, if you have mold be sure the cleaner removes mold and will not kill all of your plants and is safe for animals.

If you have a wood deck in serious need of help, it may be time to consider replacing it with a low-maintenance composite material. The bonuses are that it resists fading, staining, mold and is easy to clean. You don’t have to worry about painting or staining every three years. To give you some idea as to what the materials would cost, one manufacturer, Trex, offers a calculator tool, click here to learn more. Remember to add in labor costs to the materials cost to get an overall project estimate. To find a deck specialist in your area, click here.

How will you decorate?

The trend is toward bringing indoor comfort and style outdoors. Create a cozy and comfortable sitting area outside using the comforts of home:  pillows, throws and outdoor lights. Hanging artwork or accessories is a great way to add color to your outdoor surrounding. You don’t want to damage the façade of your house, or put holes in siding, to avoid that use vinyl siding hangers or brick clips. If you have stucco siding, you may be tempted to use an outdoor double-sided tape be sure you do your research. For example, I read that this type of tape would not adhere to “heavily stucco” facades, and I am very curious what will happen if you try to remove it.
