We are living in the age of DIY projects. Look up any subject with “DIY†attached in Pinterest, and you will be supplied with tips, ideas, and inspiration. Often, the projects look so easy to complete. Here’s the deal, in many situations the writers assume that you will have the proper tools to complete the job. In this decorating article, I wanted to cover the basic tool box needs for any weekend home project and these items can easily be picked up at any hardware store.
Start with a tool box; it doesn’t have to be big, and there are many inexpensive options. Harbor Freight offers them for less than $10!
- Hammer – 16oz hammer is lighter weight, or consider a short handled hammer, which may be easier to handle.
- Screwdriver set with interchangeable tips: Flat head, and Phillips head
- 25’ Measuring Self-Centering Tape
- Pliers – needle nose, combination
- A small Level
- Utility Knife and extra blades
- Stiff-bladed putty knife 1 1/2″ for scraping and a wider one for doing patch work such as 3-5″
- Adjustable crescent wrench: 6-8â€
- Wire stripper – cuts wire to the proper length
- Cordless Power Drill – Dewalt DC825 18v drill, Bosch PS31 12v drill – both feature a smaller handle and are light weight.
- Nail set – used for sinking nail heads below the surface

- Supplies: Wood filler, Sandpaper in fine and medium grit, single use Super Glue, Various sized nails and picture hanging supplies, Hercules Hooks for hanging pictures or anything up to 100lbs.
