Creative Storage Ideas

by Debbie Correale

redesign-changeHave you ever found yourself sitting in an area of your house and not liking it, disliking the amount of stuff in it, or not enjoying the feel of the room? If any of these apply, you may want to consider a fresh way of storing things, creating a new look for your existing things, and changing the flow of the room.

Storage

There are many out-of-the-box storage and design ideas, and I put together a Pinterest board for you to peruse various ideas for inspiration, click here to view the Creative Storage Ideas board. Keep in mind that you don’t have to use plastic bins to get organized! You can use items you may already own, such as a dresser or bookcase that can be repurposed to fit a space. Depending on how old your home is, storage places may not be plentiful, and you can create your own without remodeling your home. To help you find some creative and unique storage ideas, I looked around for you and came up with a list of options for you, click the link to view shopping options:

Create a New Look

I have covered the topic of creating a new look in past decorating posts about repurposing and creating new things out of old items such as What is Old is New. I challenge you to look at the pieces in the room where you are in need of a new look and consider a new way of looking at it. Perhaps removing clutter and organizing may be the best option; however, adding more items to an already cluttered area may not be the best choice. Consider taking an item that is in the room and modify it to handle multiple purposes, or there may be another piece of furniture in another room in your house that could fit the perfect spot. Remember, textures, and paint color can be changed.

Feel of a Room

Several aspects of a room can cause you not to “feel right” in it. Often it can be as simple as the paint color in the room doesn’t work for you. Frequently I have found that it is the layout or flow of the room, and a room redesign can take care of that. Perhaps you have too much furniture in a room? Taking a step back and looking at your house with fresh eyes can be challenging, yet it offers you the opportunity of seeing your home differently.Redesign Right
