Pantone® 2015 Color of the Year – Marsala!

by Debbie Correale

marsalaHave you heard?  Pantone® announced their 2015 color of the year as Marsala 18-1438; I love their description as “naturally robust and earthy wine red.”  Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute, has the following to say about the color:

The charismatic and highly varietal shade of Marsala; a tasteful hue that embodies the satisfying richness of a fulfilling meal, while its grounding red-brown roots emanate a sophisticated, natural earthiness. Complex and full-bodied, this hearty, yet stylish tone is universally appealing; translating easily to fashion, beauty, industrial design, home furnishings and interiors.”

Pantone® offers many suggestions for color pairings, which you can see visually on their website by clicking here.  Eiseman mentions that Marsala can be coupled with metallics in brown, copper or umber and suggests that the opposite on the color wheel would be lovely in a teal blue or green.  Personally, I think this color would be beautiful paired with gold tones.

There are many ways that you can consider incorporating this earthy tone into your home and to offer you some visual ideas I created a board on Pinterest for your viewing enjoyment, click here to peruse.  For more ideas on how to use this color in your decorating, I found a fantastic article that is worth a read.  Click here to review decorating ideas with the color Marsala in your home in 2015!
