Decorating with Favorite Colors this Holiday

by Debbie Correale

One of my favorite colors is red!  What compliments red exceptionally well?  Gold!  I love that combination in my holiday decorating.  It makes me feel joyous when walking through my house and entertaining guests.  Isn’t that really what decorating and redesigning is all about?  Create your space so that you get the most out of it and decorate it in such a way that brings you and your family joy!

Here are a few tips on holiday decorating that you can do yourself with two of my favorite colors – red and gold!

Transform a soft pillow into a holiday pillow by creating a bow with red wide satin ribbon.  Use an old costume jewelry pin as the center piece of the bow, the glittery the better!  If you’re unsure how to tie a bow, click here for step-by-step instructions.  If it’s in your holiday budget, purchase some beautifully adorned pillows such as this one from Pier1.com.

Add a beautiful gold mercury glass ornament from PotteryBarn.com; I love the sparkle!  Use beautiful ribbon to hang a series of gold ornaments from something high in the room.  An entryway is a perfect spot.  Go to your local hardware store and pick up clear hooks from 3M that are removable!  Hang the hooks from the trim around your dining room entrance, or hallway, or any space that gets sunlight to show off your lovely holiday display of gold ornaments!  (Click here for an example of how lovely this idea looks in action from TraditionalHome.com.)

Incorporating fresh natural items into your holiday décor is easy, and you only have to go to your market!  Pick up a bag of fresh cranberries and if you feel like splurging invest in some lovely pomegranates and create a memorable centerpiece.  Place them in a shallow white or crystal bowl, next add a glass pillar in the center with a candle and you have an instant beautiful natural centerpiece!  If you want, you could always incorporate some inexpensive gold ornaments into this display to tie the whole red and gold theme together.

If you find that your house is not bringing you joy or a sense of peace that you want in your life, consider a redesign to add balance to your space.  Contact Debbie@RedesignRight.com and she can help you present the home you want this holiday season.
