To successfully organize and decorate a home office – you first need to understand exactly how the office is used.  If you have multiple family members using the office at one time and little space, potentially a system such as this one from the ContainerStore.com could fulfill your needs.  They offer the ELFA system where you can put together your own layout.  As this photo from Better Homes & Gardens depicts, you don’t have to give up on a beautiful decor in the home office!

If you battle with clutter, your best bet is to start with a system.  HGTV.com offers a great check list for your home office, in summary:

  1. Invest in adequate furniture.
  2. Establish activity centers.
  3. Properly place the hardware and peripherals.
  4. Conceal Cables and Wires.
  5. Establish a paper processing area.

Invest in a good paper shredder and shred those old bills, receipts, etc.  If you do not want to keep paper files, scan your important documents into your computer and store them in easy to find folders.  If you do store your papers on your computer, be sure to back up your system frequently in case something happens to your computer!
