Twice a year the world supporting and creating furniture gathers at the High Point Market in NC. This year, the spring market, highlighted the following five trends in furniture:
- Fringe and geometric patterns.
- Gold elements – simplified and elegant.
- Natural elements – fun material compositions.
- Neutral tones – texture – colors are more neutral with warm gray overtones fitting into traditional designs.
- Organic and refined – natural forms – whimsical and unique accessories.
You can look forward to seeing more of these design elements in furniture and home decorating décor in the upcoming months.
There are two takeaways about this show that I wanted to highlight. The first one is amazing! Print the Future, currently looking for investors, envisions the possibility where you can print your furniture “ideas on demand.” They are using 3D printing technology to create side tables, coffee tables, whatever you can imagine. How cool is that! To see how this works, click here for a video from the Market Show.
The second highlight worth noting is that the furniture industry is looking for big growth as a large group of millennials are settling down in homes, and purchasing furniture. I mention this takeaway as it has an impact on the real estate business. You can expect millennials to be the largest home purchasing group in the upcoming years. If you plan to sell your home, you will want a designer aware of what millennials want to handle your home staging to get top dollar!
Each year the Pinnacle™ Awards are given out after the fall market, which will be held October 14-18, for excellence in retail home furnishings. Stay tuned for the results! Also, I put together a Pinterest board of some of the beautiful displays and products from the spring show, click here to view.
